When you share a ride, you can save thousands of dollars each year in gas, vehicle maintenance, and repairs. According to the US Department of Transportation, transportation remains one of the highest annual consumer expenditures, totaling $12,295 annually as of 2023.

Carpooling improves air quality by taking single-occupancy vehicles off the road.

Participants decide where to meet, such as a predetermined location or a park and ride lot.

UTA has a database of commuters that you can be matched with who are looking for a carpool. Go to utarideshare.com to create an account and your commuter profile. Sign the Participant Agreement under My Account.

Search for an existing carpool to join:


  • Click the Commute Match tab at the top of the page.
  • Choose Carpool from the list of commute options above the form
  • Enter your origin, destination, and travel times
  • Click Search

Below the map, you’ll see if there are any existing groups commuting at the same time and place as you. If there are no matches, you can sign up for match alerts to be notified when a carpool match is found.

We suggest you meet with potential carpool participants in a public place and determine if you feel comfortable sharing a ride with them.



In case of an accident, report it to your own insurance company.
